| From The Directors.... November means having to say, Good-bye and Good Luck to Leslie Linnen our co-director for a brief time as she leaves to have her baby. Her last day at Bright Star before going on maternity leave will be, November 12th. We are all excited to meet baby Kaylie and have Leslie return to us after the holidays. The board has hired a new director to take Leslie’s place when she leaves to have the baby. Her name is Kristen Boss. She was the Director at Sunshine House Pre-school in Lakewood, and The Goddard School in Westminster. She has an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education from Pikes Peak Community College in Colorado Springs. She will be starting Monday, November 3rd. Please welcome her to Bright Star. I will still be here on a part time basis the same as I have been. Leslie and I will both be training Kristen and then I will still be here daily to answer questions and continue training. Since Tuesday is election day, and Bright Star is the neighborhood polling place, we will be moving the Cosmos Class, just for that day, to one of the upstairs classrooms. We are asking parents, just for that day, to please send your child with a sack lunch. We will still be providing breakfast, snacks and drinks but it will be too difficult to haul all of the lunch items up the stairs. We would also love to have any parents who would like to volunteer to walk around that day just keeping an extra eye on things. Even if you can only do it for an hour or two that would be great! If this is something that you would be able to do please let Shelley, Leslie, or your child’s teacher know. We will be having the Bright Star Thanksgiving Family Celebration on Friday, November 21st. Please mark your calendars and we will get the specific information to you next week. Finally, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving with a big family get together or just have a cozy dinner at home, remember to include your child as much as possible. There are so many learning concepts that go on with the making of a meal from the shopping, to setting the table, to the serving of the food. Remember at Bright Star your child has been involved in “family style,” serving and are learning how to ask politely for what they want, pass dishes and serve themselves. You can be extending this learning opportunity at home as well. There are so many benefits to children when they serve their own plates. They learn to be social, caring, and self- directed diners in group settings. Risks exist. Establishing routines and patiently helping children build skills for serving themselves, are two things that help minimize these risks. If they spill don’t make it a big deal, but have them do their own clean-up. They have actually become very capable and self sufficient. Most of all, enjoy this time together and remember to be thankful for all that you have. We at Bright Star are thankful for all of you and all of your children that bless our lives each day. |
